THE BAD NEWS

When you think of air pollution, what comes to mind?  Smog?  Car exhaust?  Smokestacks belching heavy, black smoke into the air?  How about smoke, bacteria, dust, mold, mildew and fine particles inside the building where you work and breathe?

It has been found that indoor air contains five (but typically 10 or more) times higher concentrations of pesticides than outside air, and those residues include insecticides approved only for outdoor use.  Pesticides that break down within days outdoors may last for years in carpets.

If truckloads of dust with the same concentration of toxic chemicals as found in most carpets were deposited outside, these locations would be considered hazardous waste dumps.  According to scientists and health officials, sick-building syndrome is a disease related to modern architecture.  Buildings which are sealed to conserve energy actually recycle contaminated air.  Symptoms of sick-building syndrome include headaches, nausea, sinus infections, dizziness, fatigue and breathing problems.  OSHA reports that one-third of Americans who work indoors are working in a breeding ground for a variety of contaminants.

When you think that Americans spend 95% of their time indoors, these facts take on added importance.  Well, the good news is that we can help!  Please fill out our on-line survey for more information.
